Anastasiadis asked for a helping hand to deter Turkish side from opening Varosha
Yesterday Greek leader Anastasiadis presented his plan for the proposal committee for Varosha to President of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Layen.
Greek Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiadis, who sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General suggesting that the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot parties should establish a technical committee for Varosha (Marash). He also brought his proposal to the European Commission President Von Der Layen, whom he met in Brussels yesterday.
The Greek press published the news with the headline ‘Unanswered Call… Anastasiadis Offers Dialogue and Cooperation, Akinci Wants Timbu (Ercan) Too’. In his last letter to the General Secretary Guterres, Anastasiadis mentioned that he had previously sent President Mustafa Akıncı to the proposal on ‘establishment of a joint committee that Turkish Cypriots, Greek Cypriots and foreign experts would join as the first step of the opening of the Closed Varosha and its legal residents’ and stated that he had not received any answers.
In the news of Greek media from Brussels with the title “Asked for a helping hand For Maras(Varosha)… Anastasiadis’s Meeting With Ursula von der Leyen and His Letter About The Closed City”, it has written that Anastasiadis asked for a helping hand from the President of the Council of Europe Ursula von der Leyen to deter the Turkish side from the announcement of opening Marash (Varosha).
