Zelensky took the oath and became president of Ukraine
Today, May 20, in the hall of the Verkhovna Rada, Volodymyr Zelensky took the oath of the President of Ukraine.
The former presidents of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Viktor Yushchenko, Leonid Kuchma and Leonid Kravchuk, as well as the heads of four states – Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Hungary attended the solemn ceremony.
Following the opening speech of the head of the Central Election Commission Tatyana Slipachuk, Zelensky swore allegiance to Ukraine.
After that, he signed the oath and took the position of the President of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada.
The Head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Natalya Shaptala, said that Volodymyr Zelensky had taken office. The official symbols of the Head of State were brought to Zelensky.
The Head of the CEC handed him the certificate of the President of Ukraine, and the Head of the Constitutional Court handed a sign of the President of Ukraine, the official stamp and mace of the President of Ukraine.
On May 16, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine set the date for Zelensky’s inauguration, on Monday, May 20. 315 MPs voted for such a decision. As is know, in the second round of the presidential election, Volodymyr Zelensky enlisted the support of 73.22% of voters, and Petro Poroshenko won 24.45% of the Ukrainians’s votes among those who have the right to vote.
