Co-Chairs of Ukraine-Turkey Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Rustem Umerov and Yıldırım Tuğrul Türkeş met on Thursday, November 26, to discuss Crimean Platform and further cooperation between the parliamentary groups.
Chairman of the Ukraine-Turkey Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Verkhovna Rada [Ukrainian Parliament], MP Rustem Umerov thanked Turkey for its continued support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, involvement in the protection of the rights and freedoms of Crimean Tatars.
Umerov told that the parties discussed the ways to deepen inter-parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey, despite situation during the pandemic.
"We agreed to hold a video conference between Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Verkhovna Rada and Group's representatives in the Turkish parliament," he reported.
Umerov mentioned that the interlocutors discussed the chance of mutual visits of group representatives to Ukraine and Turkey after the pandemic.
Member of Ukrainian Parliament Rustem Umerov informed his Turkish counterpart on the Crimean platform initiated to discuss issues of state policy on de-occupation and reintegration.
"The Turkish side is very positive about everything we talk and offer, in particular as regards the Crimean Platform. Currently, Turkey is deciding on its role and level of participation in the Crimean Platform, which provides for involvement in four dimensions: parliamentary, governmental, at the level of heads of state and the expert level," Umerov told.
He also briefed on the latest situation with the political prisoners illegally detained by Russia and praised Tuğrul Türkeş, Head of the Turkey-Ukraine Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, for the attention and support.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, this was the inaugural and first meeting of the heads of friendship groups after the election of a new composition of the Verkhovna Rada [Parliament of Ukraine].
