Ukrainian Ombudsperson to meet with the relatives of the Ukrainian sailors captured by Russia
Today, January 10, in Odesa, a meeting of Ukrainian officials with relatives of Ukrainian sailors captured on November 25, 2018 at the Kerch Strait will take place.
Ukrainian Human Rights Ombudsperson Lyudmila Denisova, informed on the upcoming meeting at a briefing with representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other departments.
The briefing was also attended by lawyer Nikolai Polozov – coordinator of a group of lawyers protecting the imprisoned sailors.
The main theme of our meeting was the coordination of the work of the central bodies of executive power for the release of prisoners of war. We agreed on a general concept of holding a meeting with the family of sailors in the city of Odesa. Also a possible trip was discussed to the court session on the election of a preventive measure against 24 Ukrainian prisoners of war, which will be held in the second half of January in the city of Moscow.
Earlier, Denisova had already announced that she intended to meet with the relatives of the Ukrainian sailors captured by Russia.
Ukraine filed an application to the European Court of Human Rights regarding the seizure of Ukrainian sailors from the Kerch Strait by Russia.
