The statistics of dolphins beaching themselves in the annexed Crimean becomes heavier every year. The Head of the Center for the Study, Rescue and Rehabilitation of Marine Mammals Serene Sea Anastasia Korosteleva made a corresponding statement, as cited by RIA Novosti. Since April 2017, the Center has recorded about a thousand (998) cases of dead dolphins were found on the co9ast of the annexed Crimea, and another 46 marine mammals were beaching themselves alive. Since the beginning of 2019, 338 animals have been found, including ones that were still alive. If compared with foreign data, the scale is just enormous, since in Europe and the United States various organizations register an average of 3-4 “live” beaching per year and about 200 cases of animals found dead, - the expert concluded. Also, all the Black Sea dolphins – Azov harbour porpoise, short-beaked common dolphin and bottlenose dolphins, listed in the Red Book, become victims of fishing nets, but most often Azov harbour porpoise suffer from the hands of anglers. In the spring of 2019 in Yevpatoria, a storm carried the wounded bodies of at least 16 dead dolphins to the shore. Each animal had deep marks of entanglement in the nets on their skin, and several of the tail fin blades were cut off. Earlier, on July 9, the staff of the center Tranquil Sea discovered five dolphins were on the Crimean coast, three of them beached themselves alive.
