The patrol ship of the Coast Guard of the Federal Security Service of Russia Ametyst covers illegal sand mining in the territorial waters of Ukraine – in the Karkinitsky Bay on the Bakal bank (near the Kherson region), according to the information on the Ukrainian military portal.

Sand mining is carried out with dredgers Pechora, Trof, Irtysh and Amur. And the FSB ship is covering the area from Cape Tarkhankut to the Bakal Spit between the annexed Crimea and the Kherson region.

Earlier, in May, Russia resumed illegal sand mining in the Ukrainian territorial waters after a two-year hiatus. On October 22, Trofa and Irtysh dredgers operated under the cover of the Bereg 85 radio engineering post of the FSB of Russia. During the day of illegal activities, they extracted 780 and 2100 tons of sand each. After this, ships followed to the ports of the Black Sea and Sevastopol.
