Results of gas negotiations: Contract to be signed for five years and Russia will pay Ukraine three billion dollars
Russia and Ukraine signed a protocol of agreements on the extension of gas transit through Ukraine and the settlement of mutual requirements, namely: resolving the issue of Naftogaz’s claims on Gazprom for $ 3 billion according to a decision of the Stockholm arbitration.
The Assistant to the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, who took part in the negotiations in Minsk, told about the outcome, Hromadske reports.
“We are returning home with very good news, and we will have a transit contract on favorable terms for Ukraine. Thanks to these agreements, Ukraine will receive three billion dollars pursuant to the decision of the Stockholm arbitration,” Yermak said.
He stressed that the repayment of the debt of Gazprom will be in monetary terms.
In turn, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Dmitry Kozak informed that the contract was concluded for five years.
According to him, the signing of the contract is expected before the end of 2019.
“The volumes [of transit – Ed.] will be sufficient to meet the needs of European consumers,” he said.
Kozak also stressed that “no more judicial disputes” will be between Ukraine and Russia, and the parties settled the existing disputes.
“We have signed a tripartite agreement with the EU,” Kozak noted.
