The Representative body of the indigenous people of Crimea, Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, expressed support for President Petro Poroshenko and called on Ukrainian citizens to also support his candidacy in the March 31 presidential elections.

The decision of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people was published by its Head, Refat Chubarov, on Facebook

The official clarified that this decision was accepted as a basis in January of this year, and it was approved and signed on February 27.

The document specifies that the most significant point in the assessment of presidential candidates is their ability to mobilize society to resist Russian aggression against Ukraine and begin the process of restoring Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“The results of the future presidential elections in Ukraine will be extremely important for restoring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of independent Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, including the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, guaranteed and free development of the Ukrainian nation, the Crimean Tatars, the entire Ukrainian society,” reads the decision of the Mejlis.

Also, the Mejlis urges citizens of Ukraine in the occupied territories to vote in future elections, and asked compatriots abroad to facilitate the organization of voting in foreign polling stations.
