Jemilev announced the name of future Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar people
During the meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the National Leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Jemilev proposed Refat Chubarov’s candidate as Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar people, reported Krym.Realii.
I said that the existence of a position of Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar people is profitable. I proposed Refat Chubarov for the post of Commissioner of the President in a written form, – said Jemilev.
On the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, a meeting was held between representatives of the Crimean Tatar people – Leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Jemilev, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov and recently elected MP Rustem Umerov.
In an interview for QHA media, Refat Chubarov commented on the results of the first official meeting with President Zelenskyy:
We discussed the interaction issues on which the restoration of the Ukraine state sovereignty over the Crimean peninsula depends. The conversation was very sincere. Let us hope that all this will serve the interests of Ukraine and all its inhabitants, including those who live in the occupied territories.
Earlier, Jemilev told that Mejlis will negotiate about a candidacy for the Commissioner of the President position. Jemilev also noted that he would like to see someone younger on this position.
As QHA media reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy participated in the opening ceremony of a new Center of the Crimean Tatar Diaspora in Ankara, where he noted that Ukraine will not get tired of drawing international attention to repressions in Crimea and carefully studying the problems of Crimean Tatars and IDPs. Zelensky was accompanied by Jemilev, Chubarov and Umerov.
Reminder: the fifth president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko introduced the post of Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar people in August 2014. The first person to this post he appointed the PD Mustafa Jemilev.
Jemilev was relieved of his duties as Commissioner in the last days of the presidency of Petro Poroshenko, when his entire administration resigned. The corresponding decree of May 18 has already been posted on the presidential website (ironically, this date coincides with the anniversary of the genocide of the Crimean Tatars – ed.).
According to the presidential decree, the post of Commissioner is introduced to “ensure conditions for the realization of the civil, economic, social and cultural rights of the Crimean Tatar people as the indigenous people of Ukraine, preservation and development of their ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious identity as part of Ukraine”.
