“Forces separated in three settlements - and that’s all, we are waiting for a meeting in Normandy format” - Head of Verkhovna Rada National Security Committee
The Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, the people’s deputy from the “Servant of the People” Oleksandr Zavitnevich said that new stages of troop withdrawal in the Donbass are not foreseen before the meeting in the Normandy format.
He made a corresponding statement in an interview with BBC News Ukraine.
“What I know, is that forces have been separated in these three settlements – and that’s it. Yes, the General Staff is exploring other sections of the 400 km frontline. But neither the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, nor the Minister, nor the Chief of the General Staff in other sectors set any tasks. The order is clear – three settlements, and then we are waiting for the meeting of our president in the Normandy format. According to its results, a withdrawal decision will probably be made,” he said.
On November 12, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission confirmed the completion of the withdrawal of troops in the area of the Petrivske settlement of Donetsk region by both sides. Currently, the parties are taking measures for mine clearance.
On November 13, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin, announced the positive dynamics of preparations for the Normandy format summit following the withdrawal of forces in the Donbass and the meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk.
