Exchange of prisoners to take place on December 29 at Mayorsk checkpoint. Meanwhile complete ceasefire is due to start on January 1
Ukraine and fighters of the Luhansk/Donetsk People’s Republic will exchange prisoners on December 29 at the Mayorsk entry and exit checkpoint, RBC Ukraine reported.
Thus, on December 27-28, a survey of all potential participants in the exchange should be completed so that they voluntarily agree to return.
“Then the final formula will be modelled [for exchange of prisoners – Ed.]. However, as long as the verification of the majority of the exchange participants has not been carried out, it can be assumed that will be possible to exchange a little more than 200 people in total,” the message says.
Also, December 26, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andrii Zahorodniuk during a briefing in Kyiv said that a complete ceasefire in the Donbas is due to start on January 1, preparations are underway for a ceasefire.
“We are talking about a complete ceasefire starting from January 1. That is, we are now preparing for this and will work on it. On the locations. Yes, we have identified our locations. As we have already said, these locations are absolutely clear humanitarian in nature – that is, these are crossings where the population can cross the confrontation lines. Now they are being discussed in the Tripartite Contact Group,” he said.
Furthermore, he emphasized that so far the name of the new locations for the separation of forces and assets cannot be voiced, but they are “completely suitable for the Ukrainian side, there are no risks.”
QHA media reported that a meeting was held in Paris in the framework of the Normandy format on December 9, during which “very important issues were agreed upon”, in particular, the exchange of prisoners and a complete ceasefire in the Donbas until the end of 2019 were on the list of key provisions.
