Canadian Foreign Minister to Zelensky: Democratic Ukraine is an example for all countries of post-Soviet region
Volodymyr Zelensky can count on the support of Canada in the international arena.
The Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland made a corresponding statement speaking to the elected president of Ukraine during their meeting in Kyiv, as cited by the press service of Zelensky.
The Canadian Foreign Minister noted the importance of the fact that the whole Ukraine “voted for the future head of state”.
According to her, democratic Ukraine, with a successful economy, is an example for all countries of the post-Soviet region, in particular, for Russians.
We see a lot in common between you and our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. Four weeks before the elections, no one believed that we would win, the Canadian Foreign Minister said.
In turn, Zelensky said that the future government does not intend to talk about the fight against corruption, but seeks to make sure that it is defeated.
Also, according to the elected President, Ukraine has a chance for a cease-fire and the return of the Donbas.
On May 7, European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn expressed the full support of the European Union to Volodymyr Zelensky and said that his “impressive victory” gives him a very strong mandate to fight corruption and “deoligarchize”.
