"Annexation is violation of international law." Austria not to renounce anti-Russian sanctions
Austria considers the annexation of Crimea a violation of international law and does not intend to drop anti-Russian sanctions.
Foreign Minister of Austria Karin Kneissl made corresponding statement on the eve of her visit to Moscow with a delegation led by the President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen, TASS reports.
According to Kneissl, Vienna adheres to EU sanctions against Russia, because they were imposed due to gross violations.
The sanctions were imposed in 2014 and continued ever since; recently, they were extended for another six months. We never left these because we respect the international law.
Earlier, in August 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin went to the wedding of Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneisl and even danced with her.
On March 15, the European Union imposed personal sanctions against eight Russian citizens in connection with the aggression against Ukrainian sailors off the coast of the Kerch Strait in November 2018.
