Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov believes that the Crimean Platform summit should outline concrete steps to accelerate de-occupation of the peninsula.
His statement came during an interview on the air of the Crimea.Realities Radio.
In addition to the statements, participants of the Crimean Platform should take concrete steps to make Russian troops leave Crimea, according to Chairman of the Mejlis.
“We must do everything possible to make the Crimean Platform successful and prevent it from ending in failure,” Refat Chubarov emphasised.
According to him, states supporting the Platform should advocate the strengthening of sanctions against Russia, in particular, by imposing an immediate embargo on Russian energy.
Chubarov suggested that these governments can also minimise their relationships with Russia as its actions also pose threat to their security and societies.
“I understand that this is extremely difficult for individual states and is associated with economic losses, but we must somehow stop the Russian threat spreading around the world,” Refat Chubarov added.
About Crimean Platform
The Crimean Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to improve the international response to the occupation of Crimea and growing security challenges.
The Platform aims to increase international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations, protect victims of the occupation regime, and achieve the goal of de-occupation of Crimea and its return to Ukraine.
The Crimean Platform will operate at several levels:
The first is the highest political level, which will be joined by foreign heads of state and government. The second is the level of heads of foreign policy departments and defence ministers; the third is the inter-parliamentary level; the fourth is the level of non-governmental experts.
The activities of the Crimean Platform will be officially launched at the inaugural summit which is planned to be held in Kyiv in 2021.
