Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: Visit of Council of Europe Commissioner to Crimea is Russia's attempt to barter place in PACE
Russia is trying to barter the return of its delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the visit of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights in the occupied Crimea Dunja Mijatović.
The press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Katerina Zelenko made a corresponding statement, as cited by European Truth.
According to the Head of the press service of the Foreign Ministry, these actions by the Russian side are a cynical attempt to avoid responsibility in the Council of Europe for the international crimes committed by the Russian Federation and systemic human rights violations in the occupied territories.
Support for these attempts by the organs of the Council of Europe and some of our partners in the organization means condoning the aggressor and further undermining the authority of the Council of Europe, – Zelenko noted.
She also said that at the moment there is no agreement on specific dates of the visit between Ukraine and Mijatović.
“But the main thing is not the dates, the main thing is a clear coordination with the Ukrainian side of the parameters and the program of such a visit. Russia’s role in this process is limited solely to its duties as an occupying state,” spokesperson explained the position of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that on October 7-11, Dunja Mijatović will visit the Crimea. The European Commissioner herself said that she indeed plans to go to the Crimea, “but so far this has yet to be confirmed.”
