“To be considered after holidays”: Occupiers continue to ignore demands to provide medical assistance to the Kremlin’s prisoner Gafarov
December 25, the first meeting was held in Simferopol’s Zheleznodorozhny District “court”, to consider the claim of lawyer Rifat Yakhin against the head of the pre-trial detention center, who ignores the defense’s demands to conduct a medical examination of seriously ill prisoner Dzhemil Gafarov. According to lawyer Emine Avamileva, the next meeting was scheduled a month later, on January 23.
This follows from information on the page of public association Crimean Solidarity.
“A closed court session should to be held by video conferencing on January 23, 2020 at 13:30,” the court’s ruling said.
Attorney Avamileva noted that the diagnosis, according to which Gafarov could be in jail, was made back in July 2019. Since then, his health has deteriorated significantly, but Sergei Berezhnoy, head of the Simferopol detention center No. 1, continues to ignore the demands of the defense to conduct a second medical examination.
“The consideration was scheduled after the end of all holidays, on the 23rd. […] This is a certain procedure that takes time. I think that the state of health during this month may repeatedly change. Given the latest information on health of Dzhemil aga Gafarov, it can certainly get worse,” Avamileva said.
Earlier, the political prisoner himself said that he was very cold in the cell, which led to severe coughing and otitis. Gafarov several times wrote an application for medical assistance. He was given ear drops and antibiotics, but the doctors did not even conduct a physical examination. In addition, Gafarov also complains of lung problems, bowel disorder, as well as chronic pain in the heart and kidneys.
The Human Rights Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmila Denisova stated that Dzhemil Gafarov was in a pre-dialysis state and needed urgent hospitalization.
Earlier it was reported that the person accused in the “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” from the “second Simferopol group” Dzhemil Gafarov, who was transferred from the Rostov pre-trial detention center to the annexed Simferopol, was not given the necessary medicines.
A request was published on the largest website of petitions the Change.org demanding the release of a seriously ill political prisoner Gafarov, the person involved in the “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” from “second Simferopol group”.
“Then the final formula will be modelled [for exchange of prisoners – Ed.]. However, as long as the verification of the majority of the exchange participants has not been carried out, it can be assumed that will be possible to exchange a little more than 200 people in total,” the message says.
