Iran’s athletics team travels to Crimea. This will be the first visit of a foreign sport team to the peninsula after the Russian annexation
Iran’s athletics team will hold its training camp in annexed Crimea.
According to TASS, a delegation of 18 Iranian athletes will arrive in late August to prepare for the qualifying tournament of the World Athletics Championships, which will be held in Qatar.
According to the “president of the Crimean Football Union (CFU)” Yuri Vetoha, the training camp will be held in Yevpatoria at the Arena-Crimea sports complex.
The CFU assures that they have a run track for national teams to train at. Now Iranian athletes are preparing the necessary documents.
Our climate is suitable for training. We will be happy if everything will be fine with their coming to Crimea, – said Vetoha.
This will be the first visit of a foreign national team since the Russian annexation of Crimea.
The World Athletics Championships will be held in Qatar from September 27 to October 6.
In May, a scandal erupted in Germany with members of the Bundestag who illegally visited occupied Crimea on diplomatic passports.
The Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea previously informed foreign citizens that under the Ukrainian law, the entry into the occupied territories is possible only through mainland of Ukraine. And for this it is necessary to obtain permission from Ukrainian government bodies.
