The so-called “members of the state council” elected Sergei Aksyonov as the “head” of Crimea for another five-year term.

74 “MPs” of those 74 who voted unanimously supported his candidacy, TASS reports.

In addition to Aksyonov, candidates for this “position” were nominated by the first secretary of the Crimean Republic Committee of the Communist Party Sergei Bogatyrenko and State Duma member from the LDPR Pavel Shperov.

According to the “Crimean constitution”, the “head of the republic” is the highest official and the head of the executive branch. He is elected for a term of five years, but no more than two times.

Aksyonov, taking the “oath”, said that his main task was to improve the quality of life of Crimeans, stabilize price increases and increase citizens’ incomes.

He expressed gratitude to all the “MPs” who voted for him, and to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, who, according to him, “personally controls the issues related to the peninsula.”

“Together we will break through all the blockades,” he said, promising to “justify the credibility.”

Aksyonov was born in 1972 in the Moldavian city of Balti. In 1993 he graduated from Simferopol Higher Military-Political Construction School. Until 2014, he held various positions in commercial structures. On February 27, 2014, by a decision of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, he was appointed Chairman of the Council of Ministers.

After the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia in March 2014, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation Putin he was appointed interim “head” of Crimea, and in October 2014 he was elected to this “post”. After taking office, he decided to combine the post of “head of the republic” and the chairman of the Crimean “Council of Ministers”.

Meanwhile, in Crimea, most likely, they will refuse to combine two “posts”: the “head” of the Crimea and the “prime minister”, which were simultaneously held by Aksyonov, the “speaker of the state council” of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov said. According to him, a final decision on this issue will be made in the near future.
