The so-called “members of the state council” elected Sergei Aksyonov as the “head” of Crimea for another five-year term.
74 "MPs" of those 74 who voted unanimously supported his candidacy, TASS reports.
In addition to Aksyonov, candidates for this "position" were nominated by the first secretary of the Crimean Republic Committee of the Communist Party Sergei Bogatyrenko and State Duma member from the LDPR Pavel Shperov.
According to the “Crimean constitution”, the “head of the republic” is the highest official and the head of the executive branch. He is elected for a term of five years, but no more than two times.
Aksyonov, taking the "oath", said that his main task was to improve the quality of life of Crimeans, stabilize price increases and increase citizens' incomes.
He expressed gratitude to all the "MPs" who voted for him, and to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, who, according to him, "personally controls the issues related to the peninsula."
