Kiev District Court of occupied Simferopol arrested a previously detained resident of this city Denis Kashuk, Graty reported. The Crimean is accused of possession of explosives and ammunition was arrested until February 18, 2020. The cousin of Kashuk, Olena Huseynova, told Hromadske Radio, that her brother was not politically active, did not go to rallies, and he was most interested in his family and close people. In her opinion, the situation with his detention seems absurd. “Although Denis was a political scientist by profession, he was not a politically engaged person,” his cousin describes him. “Denis was born in Crimea, studied at the University of Kyiv at the Faculty of Political Science, even tried to stay in Kyiv for a year, but mainland Ukraine was “not his thing”. For him it was important to return to Crimea, to stay here and work here,” Huseynova said. Denis Kashuk was detained on December 17 by FSB officers on his way to work. Relatives found him only two days later. Lawyer Islyam Velilyaev met with Kashuk in the FSB building in Simferopol, but he refused his services in writing. According to the lawyer Nazim Sheikhmambetov, this was done, possibly due to the use of torture and physical pressure. Denis's wife, Olga Kashuk, fears that her husband might be forced to incriminate herself under torture.
