QHA has learnt this from the press service of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people.
During the official visit of the Majlis Chairman, MP Mustafa Cemil to TRNC, he met the rector of the Middle East Technical University, Dr. Suat İ. Günsel. As a result of the meeting, they signed a joint agreement under which the university will allocate annual quotas for the education of three Crimean Tatar students. So, the university enrolls 8 Crimean Tatar students.
“We send young talented people for education. Three of them started classes from the first course, while the rest continued their education in the magistracy. At present, eight students from Crimea are studying in the university. We place big hopes on them. After defending their theses and receiving higher education, all of them will return home. The Majlis tries to create all conditions for the successful training of Crimea students in the Northern Cyprus. As a result of our request, the Turkish government pays each student scholarship in the amount of 1,000 dollars per year. In the future scholarships will be increased. We regularly get in touch with our students and try to promptly solve any problem,” S. Kacamet said at the meeting with students who came for holidays.
According to Leniye Halychenko, a third-year student at the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, the University of Nicosia welcomes about 18,000 students from different countries of the Turkic world. Instruction is in English, the language of communication is Turkish.
“Education is paid. Other students have to pay 7,000 euros a year for education and 3,500 – 5,000 euros for dormitory. All this is for free for the Crimean Tatar students. In addition, we have meals three times a day, eat for free and get a one-time scholarship of 1,000 dollars at the end of the year,” she said.
“Thorough knowledge of English I received in Crime made my study much easier. Students communicate with each other in the Turkish language very close to us. So far, there are no problems. When they wanted to move us to another dormitory with small comforts, we immediately called to Crimea. The Majlis Chairman Mustafa Cemil and Safure Kacamet have quickly resolved the issue,” said Leilâ Mamut, who is studying at the Faculty of Management.
“We are grateful to the government of Turkey, the University of Cyprus and the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people for the opportunity to obtain and continue education abroad. We undertake to return to Crimea as highly qualified specialists,” students promised.
