Ukraine to continue dialogue with IMF

KYIV (QHA) - Ukraine will continue negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) after a Ukrainian delegation and IMF officials failed to come to a final decision in Washington talks on their reengagement this week. This is announced by the Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Social Policy Serhiy Tihipko at a press conference in Kyiv, according to Ukrinform.
Tihipko said that the IMF continues to insist on raising gas tariffs for households what the Ukrainian side disagrees with. At the negotiations Ukrainian officials presented proposals on compensation for related expenses through the state budget of Ukraine.
As the press office of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine reported, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and the IMF managing Director Christine Lagarde have met Thursday in Zurich (Switzerland) to discuss the key issues of economic reforms and measures needed to ensure sustainable economic development of Ukraine. The sides agreed to extend the active dialogue between teams of experts of Ukraine and the IMF in the near future.
As QHA earlier reported, the Ukrainian delegation led by Finance Minister Valeriy Khoroshkovsky left for Washington to hold talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on January 24.
