Turkey appeals for 2020 Olympiad ISTANBUL (QHA) - Turkey has appealed to be nominated to candidacy to host 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, News.Az has reported.
The Deputy Chairman of the Turkish National Olympic Committee, Hasan Arat, presented Turkey’s dossier to Jacqueline Barrett, director of bid city relations at the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne.
“This is the first step which would be followed by the nomination of the candidacies on May 25 in Canada, and the final decision will be made in Buenos Aires in 2013,” Arat said.
He added that the master plan included existing sports facilities as well as those planned to be constructed and an Olympic village, a media village.
According to Arat, the Turkish government had extended tremendous support for Istanbul's bid for candidacy, adding that the city made its first appeal 20 years ago.
“There is a huge difference between today’s Istanbul and Istanbul 20 years back,” he summed up.
