
AQMESCIT/ SIMFEROPIL (QHA) - A final lesson of the School of Brides (‘Kelinler Mektebı’) has been conducted at the QHA press centre (Aqmescit/ Simferopil) on January 14.
Initiators of the school, which opened on January 29, 2011, are the Crimean Tatar organization Yaşlar Sedası (Voice of Youth) and Women’s Club Nenkencan.
The school had about 20 girls who wanted to get some of the basics to prepare for married life.
At the final meeting, the girls learned about the Crimean Tatar wedding traditions, in particular, with wedding dresses of their ancestors, as well as dowry.
In addition, the meeting summed up the results of the school’s activities for 2011.
According to one of the organizers of the school, the Head of Women’s Club Nenkencan, Zera Bekir, the girls studied family traditions and customs, cooking national dishes, embroidery and much more.
“Assistant Mufti of Crimea hajji Hayder İsmail conducted for future brides lectures on the basics of Islam and the correct behaviour of women in the family. A researcher of the Crimean Tatar culture, painter and ceramist Mamut Çurlu spoke about the rich tradition of national embroidery. Embroidereress Zarema Mustafa from Bağçasaray (Bakhchisarai – Ed.) gave lessons in embroidery. In addition, the girls learned the Crimean Tatar dances and songs, and listened to recommendations on the “family psychology” of Devlet Sultan, and went through a medical course,” she told.
Aliye Kefil, Head of the Yaşlar Sedası organization, stressed that the main purpose of the School of Brides is a revival of national traditions. She expressed the hope that the school will continue to work in the future.
Participants, in turn, thanked the organizers for the opportunity to learn about the history of the Crimean Tatar people and get the basics of family life.
The first School of Brides will complete by the general meeting to be held in late January or early February of this year. It is planned to invite to the event women in old age, who can tell how brides used to prepare for family life in their times, times of their mothers and grandmothers.
