Opposition to fight for victory in 175 out of 225 constituencies

KYIV (QHA) - At the parliamentary elections in 2012, the opposition will work in 175 out of 225 constituencies.
According to Arseniy Yatseniuk, leader of the Front of Change Party and Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense faction deputy, such a decision was made during talks held with the Batkivschyna and Svoboda parties on the nomination of single candidates in single-member constituencies at the upcoming parliamentary elections, Interfax-Ukraine reported on Wednesday.
“We are holding difficult political consultations. Each party wants to get more seats. But the main thing is to get them. The opposition now has two approaches. One is to work in all 225 constituencies, and another is to focus on 150 constituencies. We decided that it would be expedient for us to actively work in 175 constituencies, including in the eastern regions,” Yatseniuk said in an interview posted on the website of the Focus magazine.
He noted that he will not raise the question of the unification of Ukrainian opposition parties into a single political force until the question of single candidates in majority districts is resolved.
The deputy also predicted that the united opposition would get in a future parliament “the majority by a margin of two or three votes.”
“Perhaps, 227 to 223. In fact, a two-party system exists in our country. The post-Soviet [party] opposes the pro-European [party], and the past [opposes] the future,” Yatseniuk told.
