Naftohaz to carry out obligations on gas transit to Europe KYIV (QHA) - Naftohaz of Ukraine pledges to fulfill its obligations on the transit of natural gas to Europe and Ukrainian consumers, Ukrinform reported on Thursday quoting the company’s statement.
Ukraine’s state oil and gas company reported that the volumes of natural gas transited across Ukraine and the selection of imported natural gas remained at a level determined by the contract with Russia’s Gazprom.
“The increase in natural gas consumption in Ukraine, which is associated with the severe cold, is compensated for solely through the selection of gas from Ukrainian underground storage facilities,” reads the statement.
Gas supplies to Ukraine and Europe had not been reduced, Gazprom noted.
On February 1, Brussels-based publication EUobserver, citing information from the European Commission, said that Gazprom has begun cutting gas supplies to the EU in order to meet higher demand in Russia caused by severe cold weather.
Italy said on Tuesday, January 31, that volumes dropped by 10 percent but that its underground gas reserves were 65 percent full and that it can pull in extra volumes from Algeria, the Netherlands, Norway and liquid gas markets.
