JURMALA/ LATVIA, 27.07.10 (QHA) – The performance of the Crimean Tatar singer Susanna Camaladin, known as Jamala, on July 27 during the opening of the International Song Contest “New Wave 2010” in Jurmala (Latvia) is cancelled.

However, the organizers of the event did not call the reasons of such decision, Jamala’s press secretary reports.

The singer’s representatives recall that Jamala was invited to sing in Jurmala as the winner of Grand Prix of the “New wave 2009” as a special guest. Her performance was supposed to open the contest. In addition, a premier of new song “It’s Me Jamala” was timed to the opening of the event.

In spite of the fact that all details of the show have been agreed and approved with the management of the contest, few days later Jamala was informed that her performance is cancelled, noted Jamala’s press service.

“It was a great surprise for us. We did not strive to stage in the “New Wave” this year. I was invited to sing because this is an annual tradition of the contest that last year’s winner should pass on the baton to next contestants. There were long talks about it, we chose the song, prepared the performance, sewed costumes… But just a couple of days ago, Aleksandr Revzin (production director of the contest) called my manager and said I would not sing there. When we asked what was the reason for this, he did not answer”, told Jamala.

Nevertheless, Jamala will still go to Jurmala as she agreed to be the anchorperson of the TV version of “New Wave 2010” at Ukraina TV Channel.
