AQMESCIT/ SIMFEROPIL (QHA) - A funeral of the well-known Crimean Tatar writer
Rustem Muedin who died on Monday night at the age of 93 has been held in the village of Perove, Aqmescit/ Simferopil district on January 25.
The funeral was attended by Rustem Muedin’s family and relatives, Crimean Tatar writers, veterans of the Crimean Tatar national movement, members of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people and many others.
Dilâver Osman, the chief editor of the magazine ‘Yıldız’, said that Rustem Muedin’s contribution to the development of the Crimean Tatar language and literature is invaluable, as he devoted his whole life to serving this purpose.
“All his works will be preserved. His soul, wishes and thoughts are reflected in his books. He will always remain in our memory,” Mr. Osman stressed.
The writer was buried at the cemetery in the village of Bavurçı/ Kam'yanka.
Reference: Rustem Muedin was born in Aqmescit/ Simferopil on July 6, 1919. His father, Osman Muedin, was a member of the Milli Fırqa party, for which he was persecuted. Rustem Muedin had six siblings. His brother Memet Sevdiâr (Muedin) was a famous Crimean Tatar journalist, writer and translator.
Rustem Muedin served in the Soviet army, then went to the front. On May 18, 1944 along with his family, he was exiled from Crimea to Uzbekistan.
He wrote a play ‘Sönmegen Yıldızlar’ (‘The stars that do not go out’), six plays in two acts, one novel, as well as numerous short stories.
A number of his works were translated and published in Russian and Ukrainian languages.
He worked in the Republican Radio Committee, as well as a correspondent in the newspaper ‘Qırım.’ He was also a member of the National Writer's Union of Ukraine.
