Simferopol (QHA) - An all-Crimean round table, initiated by ex-president of Crimea Yuriy Meshkov took place in Simferopol. The event gathered deputies of Crimean Parliament of different convocations, leaders of public organizations of Crimea and Sevastopol, heads of national cultural societies, business community, experts, political scientists and journalists.
Ex-president of Crimea communicated with participant via Skype. In his speech he urged the Crimean organizations to reestablish the Crimean constitution of 1992.
“Our common goal is to mobilize and create the base for future changes. In my understanding, Crimean Public Parliament should be such base. In its structure, there should be a body that develops and enforces resolutions of the all-Crimean Referendum of 1991, which proclaimed the Republic of Crimea autonomous and independent. It should also bring back into effect the constitution of 1992. Social network could unite participants of this public movement,”- said Meshkov.
The proposal was supported by other participants of the round table.
Ex-president of Crimea also commented current political crisis in Ukraine. He criticized current authorities who by their actions caused rebellion in the country.
At the same time he noted the absence of leaders in the country, in whom people could trust and follow, calling the opposition movement ‘successors of Bandera’ from Western Ukraine’.
He also condemned current authorities for ‘ending freedom and independence’ in Crimea.
To note, ex-president of the Republic of Crimea Yuriy Meshkov is in exile in Moscow at present. In December 2013, he called on to conduct an all-Crimean round table to define political and legal status of Crimean peninsula.
As reported, in July 2011, the District Administrative Court of Crimea supported the decision of the Ukrainian State Security Service to expel the citizen of Russian Federation Yuriy Meshkov from Ukraine with restricted entry for five years. The Security Service justified its decision to expel Meshkov by his statements indirectly calling for a change in the constitutional system of Ukraine.
