US Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker discussed the security situation with the commander of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO), Lieutenant-General Sergei Naev, during his visit to the Donbas, the JFO headquarters press center reported.
“We are glad to welcome you in the area of the operation. We thank partners for their support in the fight against the Russian aggressor,” Naev said as cited by the press center.
The staff noted that Kurt Volker will familiarize with the military and humanitarian components of the operation in Donbas.
This was the first meeting with Kurt Volker since the beginning of the Joint Forces Operation.
Previously Kurt Volker advocated the liquidation of the "DPR" and "LPR". He stressed that the illegal groups have no place in the Ukrainian constitutional order. The US State Department's Special Representative for Ukraine further noted that the assistance of the peacekeeping mission should create a transitional period of transfer of control over the Donbas from the RF to the UN and only then to Ukraine.
Earlier Volker said that Russia can return the Crimea to Ukraine as it regained independence to the three Baltic states, although they were considered Soviet republics for several decades.
In addition, he stated that sanctions will be imposed against Russia until it returns the annexed peninsula.
