The Ukrainian authorities are intensifying security measures in the occupied part of the Donbas, since they do not exclude the escalation of the conflict, the press service of the State Border Service of Ukraine reported.
“In connection with the aggravation of the internal situation in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the possibility of an escalation of the conflict or any provocative actions on the part of Russian mercenaries is not ruled out. In this regard, within the limits of its competence, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has intensified security measures on the demarcation line," reads the report.
The SBSU noted that security measures were intensified in all checkpoints of entry and exit, where about 40,000 citizens had passed over the last 24 hours. The number of border patrols that use technical means of control has been increased. Sniffer dogs are engaged in the checks.
“In addition, all border units in the ATO zone are on alert and monitoring the situation of facilities in the field of the agency's activity,” the service informed.
Reportedly, further escalation of tension in the occupied areas of Luhansk region could lead to a significant deterioration of the humanitarian situation and an increase in the flow of civilians to the territory controlled by the government of Ukraine. Also, the Ukrainian side of the JCCC urged the Russian side of the JCCC and the SMM OSCE to take all possible measures to ensure free and timely movement of civilians and prevent provocation.
