AQMESCİT/SIMFEROPOL (QHA) - Due to the recent U.S. decision that Ukraine is intellectual pirate number one, the country received a blow to its reputation and could lose a major investment.
General director of the company Microsoft Ukraine, Dmytro Shymkiv emphasized this during a round table at the Gorshenin Institute on Monday.
"Ukraine has got a black mark on its reputation. This is the most ugly and unpleasant stigma. This means that it does not make sense for Ukraine to wait for any major investment in this sector (Internet technologies - Ed.)," he said.
Shymkiv said that to date the investigation is continuing, and after the July 18 hearing, on November 30, the U.S. will make a final decision regarding the level of piracy in Ukraine.
"The decision may entail removal of trade preferences, which the country enjoys now," Shymkiv said.
It is notable that this is the second time Ukraine comes to the attention of the United States. The country was recognized a "priority" in 2001, and only in 2005 the status was removed. Then the sanctions were lifted thanks to a contract that the Ukrainian side signed with Microsoft.
As reported, May 1 the United States declared that Ukraine is the key piracy center. This decision was made public by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
