KYIV (QHA) -

Sweden is ready to participate in the UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbas and send peacekeepers there, Defense Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden Peter Hultqvist said in Kyiv after talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Stepan Poltorak.

According to him, Stockholm does not wish to see a "frozen" conflict in the east of Ukraine.

“If there is a decision of the UN Security Council, Sweden will consider the possibility of participating in such a mission. If this decision is taken, it will have a serious impact on the situation with stability in the Baltic countries, Finland and Sweden," he said.

At the same time, the Head of the defense department stressed that his country supports the establishment of such a mission, which will have to comply with all international agreements.

"We are trying to achieve stability and peace, so we support this mission," he stressed.

According to Hultqvist, Sweden supports Ukraine in defending its sovereignty.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would not oppose the deployment of peacekeepers throughout Ukraine.
