DONETSK (QHA) -

Mission patrol was not allowed to enter the Oleksanrivske village Donetsk region on the territory seized by the so-called “DPR” (Donetsk People’s Republic). An armed man told the patrol that "drills" were being conducted in the region, according to the report on the incidents that happened during patrolling of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Donbas.

According to observers, they had to drive away from the checkpoint, and after 10 minutes two armed men approached and ordered to move even further. The OSCE mission described those men as follows: “Black-and-white chevron on the shoulder with the image of the skull and crossed bones and the inscription ”General Baklanov Volunteer Unit”, the language of communication was not identified, but it differs from Russian and Ukrainian”.

“The General Baklanov's chevron”

After 15 minutes, SMM had an incident with minibuses, where at least five armed persons were. Drivers of vehicles blocked the passage of the patrol, and a militant from the minibus photographed mission members and their cars.

According to the mission members, in 20 minutes another vehicle with the mark “militia” approached the SMM observers. The armed man asked to show the patrol plan. The observers refused to meet this demand and explained the mission mandate provisions. After that the armed men made a phone call and said that SMM patrol is free. But he escourted them in the "militia" car to the militant-controlled Novoazovsk.

Reference: Baklanov is a Russian general, who took part in the suppressing resistance during the Caucasian War (1817-1864), when the Russian Empire conducted military operations on the accession of the North Caucasus mountain regions to Russia.
