The plan of the Russian Federation to deploy S-400 surface-to-air missile system on the territory of annexed Crimea is a danger for the whole of Europe, according to Anna Hopko, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs (Samopomich faction).
She stated that in connection with the militaristic actions of Russia, the United States and the European Union should react to the threat emanating from the Kremlin.
"In fact, it is a global problem that since invasion of the Crimea and its occupation, Russia has been trying to militarize the peninsula, to deploy nuclear weapons there, and in fact it poses a threat to the entire Black Sea region and its neighboring countries," she said.
Hopko noted that Ukraine will not be able to oppose the plans of the Russian Federation independently, without "transatlantic efforts".
Earlier, the representative of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernobay said that there was no threat to the Crimea from Ukraine, as Russia seeks to represent it, especially since Crimea is a Ukrainian territory.
According to him, Russia is manipulating information and consciousness, stating that there is a threat from the part of Ukraine to the inhabitants of the Crimea and against this background it is building up its armament in the annexed territory, in particular, with the S-400 missile systems.
QHA reported that the two divisions of S-400 surface-to-air missile systems will be used by Russian occupation troops in the occupied Crimea in the early days of 2018. Lieutenant-General of the country-invader Viktor Sevostyanov specified that the divisions are already in the territory of the temporarily occupied peninsula.
The long-range S-400 Triumf air-defense system was designed and manufactured by Almaz-Antei Concern. It is intended to defeat strategic and tactical aircraft, ballistic missiles, hypersonic targets and other air assault weapons in electronic and other forms of counteraction.
The system is capable to reach aerodynamic targets at ranges up to 400 km, and ballistic targets flying at speeds up to 4.8 km / s at altitudes of several meters to several tens of kilometers at a range of up to 60 km.
