NATO supports the idea of the deploying the UN peacekeeping mission in the east of Ukraine throughout the territory of conflict, including the section of the Russian-Ukrainian border that is beyond Kyiv's control now, according to the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
"We welcome all the ideas and proposals that can help us in the implementation of the Minsk agreements, the observance of armistice and the removal of heavy weapons," he said.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine said that the introduction of a UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbas should aim not to freeze the Russian occupation and legalize the presence of Russia in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, but to ensure lasting peace in certain regions and complete restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
At the same time, the UN mission should be deployed throughout the temporarily occupied territory, including an uncontrolled section of the Ukrainian-Russian border.
