Europe’s Vega carrier-rocket with the Ukrainian engine and Turkish intelligence satellite Göktürk-1 was successfully launched from Kourou Spaceport in French Guiana on December 5, the press service of the State Space Agency of Ukraine reports.
The Vega carrier-rocket was developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) jointly with the Italian Space Agency (ASI).
Ukrainian engine was developed by Yuzhnoye State Design Office named after M.K.Yangel, and produced by the SE "PA Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant named after A. Makarov.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan watched closely the satellite launch. He said that the Republic should be engaged in the creation of domestic satellites.
In the future, the Göktürk-1 reconnaissance satellites will provide the Turkish Armed Forces with images of the Earth's surface. According to the forecasts, the satellite will be sending more than 60 thousand images a year.
