During the anti-terrorist operation in the east of Ukraine representatives of the so-called "DNR" (Donetsk People Republic) and "LNR" (Luhansk People Republic) committed hundreds of human rights violations, which led to a large number of injured persons and victims. Many people were illegally detained, tortured, killed or disappeared without a trace. In order to collect all such cases into a common database, the public organization "Shore of Peace" conducted monitoring, which resulted in the project "Executed in the Donbas: facts of torture and murders in the East Ukraine".
The purpose of this project is to bring to justice those responsible for grave crimes in the east of Ukraine.
“These are torture, shootings, extrajudicial executions and other human rights violations. This is important for us, because we understand: the unproven evil is only growing, and if it is ignored at the current stage, nothing is going to get better”, said Yekaterina Vizhevskaya, one of the project presentation authors, according to QHA correspondent.
The project took more than six months. Within its framework the organization volunteers monitored Internet resources, processed all available information and recorded it into the database.
"We collected various evidence: video, photos, mapping data that were recorded from those events eyewitness and participants accounts," said Vizhevskaya
According to her, the goal was to understand who carries out crimes in Donbas and whether there is any connection between these people. In addition, the volunteers also provided legal assistance to the victims in the east of Ukraine.
The first part of the project describes the cases of 95 people who became victims, including 84 murdered men and 11 women killed.
"We have described 95 cases in the first part of the report. We had such a category as the cause of death, and in 63 cases these were shootings or other murders. 16 of these cases were with previous violence and torture. Death occurred during the detention in 45 of 95 cases. Death occurred during illegal confinement in the other 35 cases. We were not able to find out the moment, when death occurred in 20 more cases. The victims were civilian in 50 cases and military persons in 45 cases”, the author of the report said.
All information collected by volunteers will be forwarded to special authorities for further investigation.
”Representatives of so-called "DNR" (Donetsk People Republic) illegal formations committed crimes in 49 cases. Representatives of "LNR" (Luhansk People Republic) illegal formatting did it in 30 cases. We have not found who committed other five cases. There were also 11 cases in which the AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) representatives could be possible executors”, Vizhevskaya concluded.
Earlier QHA reported that, according to the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, the Russian command of terrorist troops in the Donbas trains personnel to down air drones used by the OSCE SMM.
