On the first day of the Paralympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Ukrainian team has won 9 medals, the press service of the National Sports Committee for the Disabled of Ukraine reports.
A total of 45 Ukrainian athletes, in 7 sports, took part on the first day of the competition.
In swimming, Yevgeniy Bogodayko has become the 100 m backstroke champion with the result of 1min10s55. Dubrov Denis won the silver medal in the 100m breaststroke (1min05s10), being only 24 hundredths of a second from the first place.
The bronze medals were won by:
Olga Sviderskaya in the 100m freestyle;
Oksana Khrul in the 100 m backstroke;
Yaroslav Semenenko in the 100 m backstroke;
David Khorava (judo, weight category 66 kg);
Julia Galinskaya (judo, weight category 48 kg);
Ruslan Katyshev (jumping 6.20 meters in length);
Roman Daniluk (shot put 15.94 m).
After the first day of competitions, Ukraine takes 9th place in general team classification.
