KYIV (QHA) - Ukrainian boxer and 2012 London Olympics champion Oleksandr Usyk has signed a five-year contract with the promotional company of the Klitschko brothers, K2 Promotions, Interfax-Ukraine reports. “I talked with promoters from the United States, Britain, but I received the best offer from K2 Promotions. Besides, I want to glorify Ukraine and start in Ukraine, and I will still return to the United States and Britain for championship belts,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday. The athlete said that he would start his career in professional boxing in the cruiserweight category. “And then, if everything goes well, I will try myself as a heavyweight,” he added. WBC world heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko said that his company would select for Usyk opponents who would offer him a decent resistance, help him gain experience and move to a higher level, and ensure that his fights were entertaining and interesting. He noted that Usyk’s birthday was on the same date as that of the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, and, in his opinion, he will be able to achieve great heights. Klitschko said that Usyk would make his debut as a professional boxer on November 9.
