BARSELONA (QHA) - Argentina forward Lionel Messi and his father Jorge were ordered on Thursday to appear before a Barcelona court in September over tax fraud allegations.
The magistrate has accepted a complaint from the Catalonia tax crime prosecutor, who has accused the pair of defrauding the state of 1.06 million euros in 2007, 1.57 million euros in 2008, and 1.53 million euros in 2009, Euronews reported.
Messi’s court appearance, scheduled for September 17, could clash with the Catalan’s Champion’s League opening game.
According to reports, the pair could face up to four years in jail if found guilty.
