LONDON (QHA) - Swimmer Eskender Mustafaiev of Ukraine has won gold medal in 50m freestyle at the XIV Paralympic Games in London.
Eskender Mustafaiev, a native of Aqyar/ Sevastopil, beat rivals and showed excellent results – 38.26 seconds – in the final race. Paralympic silver went to David Smetanine, bronze – to Jan Povysil of Czech Republic.
Mustafaiev also participated in other three types of swimming programme: 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle.
The 2012 Summer Paralympic Games, the fourteenth Summer Paralympic Games, are taking place in London between 29 August and 9 September. The Paralympics are attended by a record number of athletes - 4,200 from 163 countries. 503 sets of medals in 20 sports will be played during 11 days of the competition. The Ukrainian team is one of the biggest - 150 athletes to compete in 12 disciplines.
