45 Ukrainian athletes (23 women and 22 men) will compete in eleven of the fifteen sports at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, which will be held February 7-23, Ukrainian Minister of Youth and Sports Ravil Safiullin told reporters, according to Ukrinform.
"Our athletes will perform in eleven of the fifteen events. According to preliminary reports, our country will delegate 45 representatives ... we will get the final figures by the end of January," he said.
The minister added that the competitions will involve 11 Ukrainian biathletes, 8 skiers, 6 freestyle and 6 luge representatives, 4 figure skaters and 4 snowboarders.
The Ukrainians will not participate in hockey, curling, speed skating and skeleton tournaments.
Safiullin noted that the country is waiting for good results of its athletes in biathlon (women) and freestyle.
The minister also stressed for taking the gold Olympics medal the Ukrainian athletes will be rewarded USD 125,000, silver - USD 80,000, bronze - USD 55,000.
