KYIV (QHA) - President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a decree "On measures to the 80th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine", which defined the tasks of the executive power in relation to honoring the memory of the tragedy victims, the First Channel reports.
The Cabinet of Ministers was tasked to establish an organizing committee for the preparation and conducting of events related to the 80th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, as well as to develop and approve, within a month, an action plan.
This action plan, in particular, should provide for holding the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Holodomor on November 23 and appropriate mourning events with participation of representatives of state authorities, local authorities and the public.
Viktor Yanukovych instructed the State Committee for Television and Radio to promote extensive coverage in state media of the events related to the 80th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine.
Note: The Holodomor (Ukrainian: “Hunger-extermination”) was a man-made famine in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic between 1932 and 1933. During the famine millions of Ukrainians died of starvation in a peacetime catastrophe unprecedented in the history of Ukraine.
