The Senate of the American state of Washington adopted a resolution in which the Holodomor is designated an act of genocide of the Ukrainian people. A photo of the document appeared on the HolodomorAware page on Twitter.
“The man-made famine was deliberately caused by the Soviet regime through the confiscation of land, grain and animals, the blockade of food shipments into the affected areas; and by forcibly preventing the starving population from leaving the region, for the purpose of breaking the resistance of Ukrainian farmers and destroying Ukraine’s national identity;
The Holodomor was a genocide committed by Josef Stalin and the Soviet regime against the people of Ukraine”
According to the publication "Voice of America", now the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holodomor has been officially recognized by the legislatures of several states, in particular California, but in these documents the Holodomor is not called genocide.
It is also known that, the resolution was passed for the Senate's consideration by Republican Senator Mark Milosia. The adoption of the document was lobbied by the Ukrainian diaspora led by the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in the states of Washington and Oregon Valery Goloborodko. Representatives of the Russian diaspora of the state spoke against the resolution.
Earlier QHA reported that in March the Portuguese parliament expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and recognized the fact of the genocide of Ukrainians in 1932-1933.
