Warming centers activated in Kharkiv

Due to the cold snap the Emergency Service in Kharkiv region is going to set up mobile warming centers along the highways that in the event of a breakdown or other incident the drivers and their passengers are not left face to face with frost.

According to Igor Lupandin, the Head of Main Department of Public safety and Emergency Service, the mobile warming centers are usually set up at the request of the local authorities in case severe frosts last for more than a week.

Svetlana Gorbunova-Ruban, a Deputy Mayor for Health and Social Protection, said that a few cases of freeze burns have been recorded over the past three weeks.

- Two men of no fixed abode received minor injuries after alcohol intake. In total, the city has 11 stationary warming centers. The patrol police are aware of their location and, if necessary, may take a person to one of them. In general, no homeless person has frozen to death in the street of our city over the past six years.
