Victims of deportation of 1944 to be commemorated in Kyiv

National Opera of Ukraine will host memorial evening, commemorating the victims of deportation of 1944, press-service of Ministry of Culture of Ukraine announced.

The event, initiated by Ministry of Culture of Ukraine together with Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people and association of Crimean Tatars in Kyiv to be held May 16.
Exhibition of Crimean Tatar works of art to be opened at National Opera. Archival video and photographs about the deportation will also be presented.

National artists of Ukraine, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar singers will perform at the evening.
The event is directed by producer and the main character of Crimean Tatar ‘Haytarma’ movie Ahtem Seytablaev.

This year Crimea marks 70th anniversary of Crimean Tatar deportation of 1944.

Traditional mourning events to be held in Simferopol, among them annual May 18 mourning meeting.
