US executes a woman

The U.S. state of Georgia executed a woman the first time in 70 years.

Kelly Renee Gissendaner was convicted of orchestrating her husband’s 1997 murder The woman was executed in the city of Jackson by lethal injection, reports Reuters.

Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole has been considering options to commute death sentence into life imprisonment, but still has not shown clemency and swayed.

Gissendaner became the 16th woman executed in the United States after the death penalty has been reinstituted in 1976. It’s worth mentioning, during a recent visit to the US, the Pope called for an end to the death penalty.
