At the briefing in Kyiv, September 9, the UN Special Rapporteur on Internally Displaced Persons Chaloka Beyani urged the Ukrainian government to establish a common strategy that could prevent internal displacement, to solve the problem of IDPs and to provide them with long-term solutions, according to a QHA correspondent.

“I call on the Government to step up the efforts to protect the rights of IDPs from the conflict-affected areas in the East of Ukraine and in Crimea,” he said.

Moreover, Beyani encouraged the adoption of the law on IDPs and the establishment of the Ministry for the temporarily occupied territories and displaced persons. But he noted that the government should ensure the effective implementation of the law, as well as the mechanisms for coordinating efforts of the Ministries and authorities.
