Ukrainian Consuls have not been able to meet the Ukrainian political prisoners Oleg Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko for more than three months. The detainees are illegally kept in a Russian prison.
According to the Department of Consular Service of the MFA of Ukraine, Russia has not yet issued a permit to visit Sentsov and Kolchenko, despite numerous requests from Ukrainian Diplomatic and Consular offices.
"Such actions on the Russian part are regarded as a gross violation of Article 13 of the Consular Convention between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, providing the right of Ukrainian Consular officials to meet the Ukrainian citizens in their places of detention in Russia," the report says.
August 25, the North Caucasus District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced a Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov to 20 years in a high-security prison.
Russia accused Sentsov of planning terrorist attacks in the Crimea during the annexation of the peninsula. Later, he was also charged with possession of weapons and explosives.
Reportedly, Oleg Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko applied the documents for the extradition to Ukraine in May 2016.
