Russia once again refused the meeting of the Ukrainian Consul with the prisoner Oleksandr Kolchenko, Spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Mariana Betsa reported on June 1 on Twitter.
“Once again, the Russian Federation refused the meeting of the Consul with Oleksandr Kolchenko, arguing that he is a Russian citizen. A daring violation of all norms. We struggle further,” Betsa wrote.
QHA reported that Crimean activist Oleksandr Kolchenko is forced to take Russian citizenship being unlawfully imprisoned in the Russian remand facility. He decided to go on a hunger strike in support of Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov.
Reference: the Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and activist Oleksandr Kolchenko were illegally detained in the occupied Crimea, and later tried on a falsified charge in the preparation and organization of terrorist attacks.
Sentsov was sentenced by the Russian court to 20 years in prison. Kolchenko, as the alleged "accomplice" of Sentsov, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
